In second grade a topic in science that is covered is the moon. The students learned that Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin, and Michael Collins were the three astronauts that made the historic trip from Earth on Apollo 11 to the moon. In a video about the moon the students heard Neil Armstrong’s famous words, “That’s one small step for man and one giant leap for mankind” and saw him place the American Flag on the moon. They learned about the 8 phases of the moon. The culminating activity was making the phases of the moon out of Oreo cookies.
