Students in Third Grade read the story “Amazing Bird Nests” by Ron Fridell. The story discusses how birds use whatever materials they can find to build a nest. The students were given different materials (tissue paper, pipe cleaners, pieces of soft cardboard and coffee filters) to create a nest that is safe enough for a bird. The students filled out a sheet describing how a bird would use those materials and where the nest would be located. Then students were able to use a “bird” to see if the nest was safe enough.
